Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a nice looking deep dark body that supports a modest sized mocha colored head. The aroma offers up chocolaty notes, nuttiness and then sort of toasted dark roasted malts. Wow, the taste is smooth, complex and integrated with lots of tasty chocolate notes, dark roasted malts and a slight berry flavor that has a bit of a sweet nectar quality. Into the finish the barrel character starts to come through with a bit of booze and bourbon. Wonderful beer.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a pale gold body that has a bit of a haze and supports an off white head. The mild aroma is softly fruity, saison spicy yeast notes that are smooth and soft and then there’s a kind of a pear cotton candy thing going on. The taste starts with both a nice crispness and a smooth sweetness. There’s a smooth spicy saison yeasty note, some fruitiness and then sort of a light white wine dryness toward the finish that helps keep this on the light side rather than heavy and sluggish as the imperial saison moniker might suggest.

Enjoyed at gabf 2014. It pours with a deep copper body that has a bit of a haze to it and supporting a light mocha head of foam. The mild aroma is modestly malty as well as adding faint prune and date notes. The taste starts malty and molasses and quickly getting into nice date notes that have a little bit of earthiness to them. To midway this picks up a thin sliver of ripe bright red apple. Nice old ale, it seems it could use a touch of age to smooth out and blend these flavor notes into more of a continuum of goodness.

Draft at the source. Poured a dark brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was notes of vanilla, sweet caramel, with some light creamy notes. Flavor was vanilla, chocolate, with some light roasted coffee notes. No clue if they really used something other than water. I’m guessing it’s a joke, but hard to really say.

Draft at the source. Poured a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma was strange, I guess mushroom - it was a little herbal, some meaty notes. Flavor was more mushroom like, light with a touch of very mellow malt and cocoa. Earthy notes.

Draft at the source. Poured a golden yellow color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was nice mago and some peppery notes. Flavor was similar too, with notes of some light hops, yeast funk notes. Probably one of the few accessible beers they make. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tripel with Mangos & Black Pepper (Ghost 102) on 11 Oct 2014 at 16:10 - Score: 8. Original review text: nice mago and some peppery notes.
