Description

Well, it is the 'bokbier' season in the Netherlands after all, so I guess I should rate at least one this year - one from this rather quiet, yet persistent craft brewery in Flevoland. Again thanks to Craftmember for sharing on his birthday party. Moussey, egg-white, shred-lacing, stable head on a hazy caramel brown beer, turning a murky dark beige-brown in the end. Aroma of wet caramel, dried medlar, old walnuts, damp earth, stewed celery, clove, cooked green cabbage (DMS), wet leather, stewed beef, withering garden herbs, moss. Restrained sweetness in the onset with a sourish edge, hints of wrinkled old apples, old raisin and medlar, medium fizz with soft, bit 'fluffy' mouthfeel; caramelly malts with a nutty sweetishness at the edges, but becoming more yeasty further on, with a very earthy ending, including clove-like spicy yeast flavours and something soupy (canned tomato soup), mildly bittered by earthy hops. Feels a bit empty and ends rather dirty: more a half-baked attempt at Belgian dubbel made by some amateur using only kitchen gear than a decent modern Dutch bok, I am afraid - more than one brewing flaw here, and very little to compensate for it. Needs quite a lot of work...

Amber color, hazy. Malt and caramel in the aroma. Sweetish, wheaty flavor with orange, caramel and a hint of roast. Slightly tart. Tasty brew, with cinnamon in the aftertaste.
