Bottled 4/15/15, drunk 12/21/16.
Large, light tan head tops a dark crimson-violet-magenta-mahogany body with good clarity. Head retention is strong for the style.
Gave this guy/gal a solid 20 months due to how powerfully sour and intense the last one I had of these was and while I suppose it helped somewhat, this is still a monster of a beer. Acetic/lactic acids are strong and backed by acidic roast and intense prune and caramel. Peppery and with some light grassiness but not a whole lot in the way of balance or relief....Some light alcohol vapors, as well.
Again, intensely sour in the mouth with as malty a texture as could be mustered but the malt is just fighting a losing battle against all of these critters. Oak, vanilla, raisin, prune, roast, black pepper, sharp cherry and more eventually beat the palate to death. While I love OEC and how sour many of their beers are, I will concede that this one is just a bit too much due to the exacerbation from the dark malts and high alcohol.
