Draught at OEC SourFest, 8/15/15.
Another golden-blonde ale, with good clarity (light haze) and a small but fairly well-retained white head.
The gin botanicals come out quite prominently in the nose, but, importantly, they aren’t harsh nor are there any astringent, dominant wood tannins. Rather, light honey/bread-like malt notes join light vanilla and soft, floral and tart acids to yield the first gin-barrel beer I actually like. I will say, the gin sorta sits there front and center, but that seems to be the case with all of the gin-beers I’ve tried so I guess that’s just par for the course. But the good acidity, malt and moderate funk do enough to add complexity to the nose. No alcohol or flaw noted.
The flavor is less given to the gin/botanicals. They’re certainly there, but a proper maltiness adds a supple texture while ample carbonation helps maintain levity and the the acidity levels are enjoyable but not overdone. No grainy wood character or booziness and quite drinkable. Would love some more of this (couldn’t buy a bottle of everything, sadly...)

Draught at the brewery release fest, 8/15/15.
Ahhhh yes, the lovely, encouraging smell of poop. I sat outside for a good while, letting the beer warm to an appropriate drinking temperature while enjoying the varied, lovely aromas of horseblanket, wet sheep wool, cow and pig manure and whatever else you want to call it. Ok, so it’s just pretty much sulfur, but it’s more fun to attribute barnyard animal smells to it. Ahem, other than that, there’s a good vanilla-like oakiness, some actual honey-like maltiness and plenty of nice lactic and brett acids. Well-rounded, you might say and quite elegant at its young age. No alcohol, or flaws.
Good dose of lactic and light acetic acids in the flavor also reveal a slick, oily texture that is nonetheless amply malted or perhaps more correctly, bolstered by the tight carbonation. The body does indeed thin out towards the finish, as the exilis seems to draw apart from the lambic notes, adding dry wheat, and soft, lactic acidity. Good use of the barrel here, it’s definitely notable but dosent dominate nor are there any particular flaws. I didn’t find the Hanssens to be too acetic at all. Hanssens oude gueuze is extremely not acetic, from my experiences, but of course, these beers are highly variable.

Bottle shared by Rob at BCTC, post game. Aroma is soured yeast, sweet moldy cheese with a rotten egg nuance, good lord this is going to be interesting.
Holy hell this is sharply sour. Sickly sweet grain, lambic funky yeast with a very sharp pucker that hurt my taste buds after a few sips. After 4 oz, I felt the the enamel on my teeth was melting away. This S. O. B is sour! To much for this guy. Intense is one word you could use.

Peach apricot color. The aroma is decent. Tart, sulphur, eggs, a lot of sour sweetness. Very good mouthfeel. A lot of apple and citrus. This is very sour! Not sure if I would age it but it’s a very unique beer. thanks Rob for sharing.

Many thanks to Rian for sharing! Smooth sweetish sourish beginning. Hints of wood, nice sweetish fruity body. Easy to drink, fresh sourish red. Wood, fresh red fruit on a great deep body. Along deep aftertaste, great red sourish woody hints. Nice.
