Description
With a foundation in homebrewing in 1992, Paul Kavulak set about to experiment within a hobby that would prove both entertaining and, at times, refreshing. Over a period of roughly 13 years, and with the able assistance of his wife Kim, this activity led to the opening of the Nebraska Brewing Company’s brewpub in Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion, Nebraska, on November 17, 2007. A new production brewery and taproom were opened in January of 2014. Located on the south side of the Omaha Metro, but still a large part of the Omaha Craft Beer scene.

Crisp copper coloured body with a thick, five centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of metal, light hops, crisp nutty malt and a bit of resin - nice. Medium-bodied; Grassy and nutty hop flavours coupled with some decently strong malt flavours and ending with a little nuttiness, but a good shaped malt backbone. Aftertaste shows some light caramelised sugar sweetness and a touch from fruit, but the malt still overpowers the hops throughout. Overall, a decent APA with a large nuttiness and a touch of resinous bitterness at the end. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 28-March-2015 for US$1,99 (received into Total Wine on 04-March-2015) sampled at home in Washington on 14-June-2015.

Sampled from a 12 oz can this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with an enormous soapy-creamy orange-white head that lingered And left decent lacing. The aroma was wheaty with hints of banana, clove, bread, boney, a tangy middle and some phenol. The flavor was bread, wheat, pepper, clove, phenol and bubblegum. Long bubblegum and bread finish. Medium body. Decent.

Can from Top Hops, NY. Golden, with a slight, white, head and touch of carbonation. Light, fruit and cereal malt aroma. Slight floral edge, followed by lemon flavours and a moderately bitter finish. A decent golden ale.

Crisp light copper coloured body with a one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of cardboard, light malt, citrus and herbal hops with a grassy and resinous scent as well and a faint bit of honey. Medium-bodied; Very resinous and grassy flavour at first with some sweetness noticeable right afterwards and a floral/piney touch at the end. Aftertaste is rather one-dimensional with the grassy hop notes showing through, but no real malt nor sweetness, rather underwhelming. Overall, a decent IPA at best, but a bit too flat and non-expressive, but at least it isn’t too deep or offputting, just a rather one-sided beer. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 31-January-2015 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-May-2015.

750 ml bottle, Adrien picked shared at his big Aloha going away party. My dear God, we have hammered back some beer. If this was a sport, we would be taking a trophy today.
The flavor is smoother than the Sexy Betty but has much less roast. The flavor is still damn nice with the rich chocolate still in the base. The whiskey is taken over by the Brandy with a very light ABV burn. Very gold.

Thanks Adrien for grabbing this one. Split 5 ways at just below cellar temp.
A - Pich black, 2 finger very creamy thick dark brown head.
S - Smells very nice. Lots of booze aroma, a little berry jam and a lot of roasted malts.
T - There is a lot of flavor here. Already, a nice base beer. Lots of roasted fresh chocolate, some cardamom and cinnamon. Roasted malts, coffee, espresso. this is really nice and quite intense. I don’t get any Brandy.
M - Nice dense mouthfeel, it is thick and leaves some residual sweetness
O - Hard to tell if Sexy Betty is better. This is special but lacks the rye whiskey spice from regular Black better

750 ml bottle, Adrien picked up in his new state of Nebraska. Much more affordable in NE. Pitch black with a nice lasting tan head. Aroma is thick chocolate, caramel candies, and nice amounts of whiskey.
The flavor is a nicely rounded by the whiskey barrel. The body is full and dense with a nicely full body. The flavor makes me think of the Ram Jam song, totally stuck in my head. Everything I want in a Impy Stout. Espresso beans, burnt barley, thick chocolate malts with a finish of mild whiskey, alcohol is only slightly noticeable. This is Damn good!
