Poured from a 750 ml bottle dated 09/23/2013. Aroma is rich and sweet with lots of dark chocolate and some light roast. Faint oak notes. Lots of dark fruit and brandy character. Plums, raisins, prunes, figs and cherries with a hint of berries and some light oxidation. Hints of alcohol. Pours black with dark brown highlights and a moderately sized, thick, light mocha head that slowly recedes. Light lacing and moderately sized legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with moderate chocolate and roast character with some hints of smoke. Medium light tobacco and leather character with some slight oxidation. Light oak notes with quite a bit of dark fruit, though less than in the aroma. Fruit is darker and less sweet than in the aroma as well. Plum, prune, berry and cherry with some moderate brandy character and some light alcohol spice. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full to full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer with a good aroma and a nice flavor. A much better beer than the regular Black Betty with the brandy barrels adding some nice dark fruit and light oak notes. The brandy cuts through the roast and astringency that I found in the regular version. A sweeter aroma as well.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle with a date of 03/01/2014. Aroma is a nice blend of fruit esters and oak character. Moderate stone fruit with some light tropical fruit that works well with some drier white wine notes and oak tannins. Hints of alcohol spice along with some light phenolic notes of coriander. Pours a cloudy, pale golden color with a big, thick white head that shows pretty decent retention. Fairly high lacing with moderate legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with some light caramel malt notes and some bread. Quite a bit of stone fruit character with some tropical fruit notes as well. Nice chardonnay addition that adds a drier fruit character. Medium light oak notes with light oak tannins and light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, I am not a huge fan of the base beer but it works well with the wine barrel character. A sweet beer with a drying barrel and wine character.

Draft at Max’s. Cloudy golden color, fluffy white head. Aroma of vanilla, lemon, light brandy. Taste is rich, complex, boozy vanilla and summer fruit.

The Sampler, Brooklyn can ($2.49): Pours amber, kind of muddy, with an off-white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, malt, hints of citrus. Taste is somewhat hoppy, but extremely well balanced with the malt backbone. Pretty nice.

From a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is rather fruity with some nice apricot character. Light notes of other stone fruit notes as well as some grain character. Pours a hazy, pale, golden orange with a small, thick white head that exhibits nice retention. Moderate lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor has some light grain notes with medium light apricot character. Light bitterness with a drying finish. Hints of other stone fruit and medium light phenolic character. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a rather nice beer but the flavor lacks the complexity and slightly citrus character that I prefer in most fruit saisons. A touch on the harsh and astringent side overall.

Bomber. Thanks to whomever sent me this! Opened 5/29/14. Pours a very dark brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, more chocolate, roast, mild wood and cognac. Chocolate, roast, cognac, whiskey, wood, bitter finish and very faint dark fruits. Medium bodied, slight lingering roast, faint heat.

Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can poured into a weizen glass. Pours deep golden with small white head. Aroma is nice banana, medium/light carbonation, and little medium bubble lacing. Taste is slightly off esters, some banana, and some clove.
