On tap at the brewpub. Thanks a million for making me a celebration beer, I’m deeply honoured! I have to admit I’ve been very exited since I heard some rumours of this beer, a bit nervous too, not knowing what kind of beer it would be, or if it would be something I’d be pleased with at all. Finding out they made it a Pepper Saison made me super happy, and when I noticed all that lovely pink grapefruit, mmmmm. They all knew I love Saison, and they knew of my fascination for black pepper, but none of them knew of my love for pink grapefruit I think. Nice they went that way then.
Well, to the beer. It’s a lightly unclear one, golden-orange in color and topped by a nice-looking off-white head of finger-thick size. The aroma is on the citrusy side, with lots of pink grapefruit. A touch of grass, and a faint hint of black pepper. The pepper gets a bit more pronounced when the beer gets warmer, but it’s still very subtle. Some hints of yeast are present. It’s full-bodied and quite dry, with a pleasant level of carbonation. A moderate to low level of bitterness supports the citrusy flavor. Lots of pink grapefruit there too, as well as some yeasty notes, grassy hints and a light peppery touch. Could maybe do even better with a more generous pepper addition, but that might also make it less appealing. Towards the end there’s still lots of pink grapefruit, and a nice touch of yeast and bitterness, and in the swallow you can still feel the pepper is there. Drinking it without knowing, and not really tasting, just swallowing, the pepper will probably go down un-noticed, but I liked the subtlety. Certainly a beer made the way I’d do it myself for my celebration :-).
Thanks a lot to Christianssand Brygghus and my beery friends for making this happen. Love you all. 121004

On tap @ the brewpub. A dark amber body with a beige head. Quite strong aroma of caramel, moderate roasted malt and dry fruit. Flavor is sweet, light roasted malt, caramel, some chocolate and fruit. Fine body and a good aftertaste. A smooth and malty brown ale with moderate bitterness. Goes well with the food.

On tap @ the brewpub. Hazy orange body with a small white head. Aroma is light spicy and fruity but quite weak. Missing the typical wit aromas. Light and refreshing in flavor, some fruit and yeast but hardly no spices and not very typical wit. Medium body and moderate in aftertaste. Totally drinkable, quite refreshing, no real faults, but a bit anonymous somewhere between a wit, weissen and blond.

On tap @ the brewpub. Slightly hazy golden body with a small white head. Mild fruity aroma, hint of spices and/or flowers with yeast. Weak but nice. Flavor is sweet, light malty, fruity, spicy, yeast and a fair dose of bitterness compared with the style. Medium body and an aftertaste with grain and bitterness tending to feel more dry. Nice and quaffable with subtil flavors, could be considered a bit dull in the start but after a few more sips there is more to this beer.
