On tap, at Kristiansand Ølfestival. An unclear, dark golden beer with a dense, two-finger beige colored head. Coffee, espresso style, pine cones and a smoke note at first in the aroma. Resins and a touch of pale malts show up. There’s a wonderful bitterness in the flavor, with resins and pine cones, some grapefruit. Some malts in the back, giving some sweetness. A good shot of coffee too. Full body with a soft carbonation. Lasting coffee finish. Too much coffee in this one I think, but it’s sure a fine brew. 140823

On tap, at Kristiansand Ølfestival. Also known as Barley Legal. It pours a big creamy off-white head over a reddish dark orange colored body. Sugary malts, oak and vanilla, citrus and nice hoppyness in the aroma. Some chocolate hints. There’s a fine bitterness in the flavor, easily balancing the malty sweetness. Caramel, citrus, vanilla, oak and maltyness in the flavor. Full body and a nice carbonation level. Lasting malty finish with the hops and barrel sure present. Pretty wonderful this one, looking forward to have it again. 140823

Sampler on tap in the brewpub. Dark brown, nearly black colour, moderate beige head. Mild roasty notes combine with grapefruity hops in both aroma and flavour. Black IPAs / ABAs are increasing their popularity, and I can understand why, as the style combines the best of both worlds. This one is no exception.

Sampler on tap in the brewpub. Cloudy straw colour, white head. Pleasant aroma and flavour of piney and grapefruity American hops, nicely balanced. Does not stand out from the rapidly growing crowd of of beers of this style - but as APA is a style I love, I would also be happy to drink this one again.

Sampler on tap in the brewpub. Black colour, tan head. Moderately roasty aroma and flavour with distinct notes of coffee throughout, but without the "bitter strong coffee" character that many other coffee stouts have. This apparently due to the fact that they have used cold extracted (and green?) coffee beans. Well balanced and pleasant to drink.

Sample at the brewery. Normal weissbier appearance, and has also the usual banana and cloves notes in aroma and flavour, but also distinct (and very untypical for the style) notes of American hops throughout, with citrussy notes and a grapefruity bitterness. Nice and tasty, might well buy again.

On tap @ the brewpub. Slightly unclear dark brown body with a medium sized, dense, long lasting beige head. Aroma has dark, roasted malt, citrus fruit, pine and some dark chocolate. Flavor is silk smooth, quite bitter and exactly like expected from aroma. Fine body and long, smooth and fruity bitter aftertaste. A classic BIPA with a smooth finish.

On tap at the brewpub. It pours a hazy orange body under a dense off-white head leaving nice curtains. It’s very hoppy on the nose, orange zest, pine cones and grapefruit, with some malts and a generic fruityness. It’s quite bitter, but except for the late finish it’s not as bitter as expected judging from the aroma. Malty sweetness with a touch of caramel. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting finish with lots of hoppy flavors. Sure nice, but not a beer to drink a lot of. Ok, I’m a wimp... 140815
