500ml can of Stryke Pils - selected by Cellars International Ltd, for Nisa Today’s Holdings Ltd - according to "http://www.beercannews.com/COUNTRIES/United_Kingdom/UK_Can_News_01_2/body_uk_can_news_01_2.html" this seems to be the same beer as LCL Pils. Dark straw colour, white head disappears instantly; cardboard aroma; sickly sweet flavour; gassy; cloyingly sweet finish. Makes me wonder why I went to the trouble of identifying what it was.

(Bottle 50 cl) Deep, hazy amber with a creamy, off-white head and some sediment in the bottle. Very dry and aromatic with a typical nutty ale-aroma and a touch of sweetness behind the pronounced hoppiness. A touch of iron? Very pretty label. 271203

Best before 10/03. So it’s probably a 02 or 01 bottle. Sweet. Pours a lovely dark golden-amber with a good white creamy head. Aroma of deep caramel/toffee and good clean light hops. Buttercream, lots of creamy milk-chocolate. What is this stuff? Flavor is super creamy, lots of thick caramel-cream flavor. Chocolatey and toffeeish to the max. Not seein any harsh or metallic notes, but it is unbalanced. Whatever, reminds me of the Federation Brown.

Nice looking label. Amber color, lace. Medium creamy white head. Aroma is hops with some caramel. Taste is sweet toffee with some late bitterness. A bit like Porin Juhlaolut.

2003 bottle at the Red Lion Pub in Chicago 03/13/04. Pours a lovely homogenous milk-chocolate brown, filtered, but still nice looking. Small beige-cream colored head that leaves quickly. Served very cold (40-43 degrees). Aroma has some sugary sweet malting, but is otherwise quite faint. Begins wonderfully full with tons of big brown sugar flavor. Honey, light chocolate and ever so smooth and warming. However, the sweetness just deepened on the finish, as opposed to throwing some balance in there. Towards the end, as it warmed, the flavor got a bit old and drinking more than one or two of these might prove to be cloying. Still, the flavor right upon sipping is powerful, sweet and great. A huge step up from the thin, lackluster newcastle.

Hazy orange-amber color. Sweet aroma, caramel and malt. The front is quite light, then some more caramel, malt and bitterness arise, with a fruity touch. The finish is well bitter but short. A quite good but simple Bitter.

Amber-brown colour. Watery, metallic mouthfeel. Nuts are only vague. Too close to Newcastle to hold my interest.
