Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

Whats Brewing 2014. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is vanilla, roasted malt, oak, molasses, coffee, chocolate. Flavour is vanilla, roasted malt, molasses, coffee, chocolate, oak. Very nice beer.

33cl bottle as a gift. Pours surprisinly dark red with a decent off-white head. Immediately fruity and hoppy aroma with citrus, pine and some malty and bready notes, rye and hints of herbs and caramel. Moderate to medium sweet with strong citrus flavours, some acidity and an almost harsh bitterness. Maybe a bit unbalanced, but still works for me. Wouldn’t mind trying it again on a later occasion.

Draft at Metenis. Really black and almost no foam. Aroma: creosote, burning and excellent red port wine. Taste: very sweet, caramel, dark chokolate, red porto and whiskey. Great!

Draft at Metenis (2015). Light amber color with a very good and stable foam. Hop aroma: strawberries, grapefruit, grapes. Just fine taste: grapefruit and other fruit juices, wine, sweet tropical fruit and average bitterness, very good.

Flaska från SB. Fruktig humledoft med köttig grape, mango tallskott. Smaken liknar doften och är torr, lite oljig och rejält besk, men också frisk och fruktig. Trots massiv humling håller den balansen ganska bra. Trevlig.
