Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

33cl on tap at Toit’s, Tallinn. Close to black in colour, pale beige head. Moderate hoppy aroma with notes of roasted malt, licorice, spruce and hints of fruits, citrus and pine. Moderate sweet with slightly confusing flavours, but pretty tasty, and a fairly dry and bitter finish. Slightly unusual, but certainly a nice one.

33cl on tap at Toit’s, Tallinn. Hazy golden to orange with a nice and lasting white head. Fruity aroma, tropical fruits, citrus, some herbal notes and just hints of wheat and malt. Moderate sweet, nice fruity flavours and a decent bitterness. Medium body with fairly average carbonation. Not much like wheat beer in flavour, more like an APA.

33 cl bottle @ PBF Ⅸ, BBE 26.11.2014
Aroma is a bit light with some bready tones and hints of berries. Flavour has sweet rye tones, some berries and hints of caramel. Also some hops in the finish. Quite bland on both aroma and flavour side, just like the original Rukkirääk was. The resiny hops in the finish are nice though.

Bottle 330ml (PBF IX) Yellow color, small white head. Sticky marmalade aroma with citrus and pineapple. Medium-bodied. Flavor is also orange marmalade, citrus and grapefruit. Good amount of hops. A bit rough and sweet for my liking, Maybe not totally clean either. Re-rate at Pub Winston. The first rate was not so good but with few samples later. Loads of citrus and grapefruit. Good maltyness. Some butter even. Very nice ipa.

33 cl bottle @ PBF ?. Batch #002, BBE 30.10.2014Aroma has fruity hops, pineapples and other tropical fruits. Flavour has fruity hops, pineapple juice, some minerals and some exotic fruits. Feels slightly harsh. 8+3+7+3+15=3.6 Draught @ Gallows Bird, Espoo-päivä Fruity and nice, perhaps even better than the bottle. No signs of harshness, but sweetness disturbs a bit. 7+3+7+4+15=3.6 Draught @ Bryggeri Helsinki. Refreshing, better than bottle. Harsh score estimate: 3.7.
