Description
Mad Hatter Brewing Company was set up by Gaz and Sue in 2013, with just one grand in their back pockets, and a glorified home brew set up. The brewery has always punched above its weight, and was championed from the start by the brilliant Port St Beer House. They produce weird and wonderful beers alongside some classic pale ales, stouts and IPAs.

Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Chestnut in hue (to match the name) with a lasting beige head and a middling fizz. Roasted chestnuts up front (yep, this beer certainly lives up to its name, and I'm pretty sure it's not autosuggestion). Black pepper, Dundee cake, crisp dry leaves, rich roasted malt, leaf mulch and pecan pie. Nuts may be the main theme, but there's a lot more than that going on here - it's a full-flavoured (but we'll balanced) and very satisfying brew that slips down very easily and is very more-ish. A great autumnal beer.

Hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and minerally crisp. Thin malts. Very floral and fairly sweet raspberry, the floralness is bordering on perfumey. A surpressed bitterness on the light dry crisp finish. I feel the Mad Hatters have lost their way a little. This tastes like a Belgian gimmick beer. It's fine but more naff than mad.
