Bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts and bready malt. Flavour is similar, with toasted malt, toasted nuts, and light vegetal notes. Surprisingly inoffensive, with a dry bready finish. Not too terrible.

Medium brown, no head. On the nose, there’s a nice breadcrusty note, not a lot but a bit. On the palate, light, soft sugary. Can drink it. Turns out I liked it more than most people at the tasting did.

Also known as #3. Dull amber, no head. Diacetyl, burnt electrical wire phenols are almost coffee-like. And honey, for some reason. Soft oily body. You actively try to block out the awful.

Amber, no head. Massive caramel aroma. Water, caramel, maybe a touch tart. Oily. I can’t lie - 11p and 30% corn that alcohol sent up red flags about underattenuation.

Flasche (평양맥주12°, 4,5 %, 640 ml) aus dem „chinesischen“ Kaufhaus in der Kwangbok-Straße, Pjöngjang. - Goldbraun, leicht trüb; bescheidener Schaum. - Geruch süßlich-karamelmalzig mit milder, süßer Fruchtigkeit (Orangenmarmelade), Malzbonbons und leicht abgestandener Note. - Antrunk matt karamelbonbonsüß mit sehr dezenter krautiger Herbe. Deutliche „alte“ Noten, wie überlagert. Matt rezent, Zuckerwasser-artig, abgestanden. - Fade malzsüße Brühe fast ohne Hopfenaromen, flau und abgestanden. Nur wenig besser als das elfgrädige.

Flasche (평양흑맥주, 640 cl) vom Potonggang Department Store, Pyongyang. - Schwarzbraun, klar; fast ohne Schaum. - Geruch malzsüß mit süßem Dunkelmalz, erinnert mehr an Bayrisch Blockmalz oder vielleicht Malzbier als an richtiges Bier. - Antrunk schal und dünn mit matter, dumpfer Malzsüße. Im Hintergrund schwach röstig-erdige, etwas verbrannte Noten. Nur schwach rezent, dünn im Mund. Im Abgang schwach krautig-herb, ganz zart säuerlich und ein wenig brenzlig-muffig. Schwach muffig-metallischer Nachgeschmack. - Ziemlich mißglücktes Dunkles (oder sollte das ein Schwarzbier werden?), dünn und schal und kaum malzaromatisch. Hier war der Braumeister offensichtlich überfordert. Nur schwach genießbar.
