Canned. Well, it’s definitely a special export, meaning kind of bland and very pale. There’s nothing wrong with it, just very pale and adjuncty.

Canned. Not much to say about this one, because I’ve had so many standard lagers here. This is pretty nice, but it’s pretty standard to-style stuff. Very sugary. I am re-rating from a can I bought at the St. Peterburg duty-free shop during my second Russia trip.

Draft. Yes, I am mellowing in my opinion on Russian beers. For yet another pale lager, this definitely has no real faults, and compares well to any other "premium" out there. Golden color, another thin but lacy head, good light pilsner malt with hops just holding it back. This is another example of Russia’s potential to become a good beer country.

Big white head, hazy orange color and lively carbonation. Yeasty banana aroma. Citrus flavor with tart mouthfeel and banana tones. Very refreshing hefeweizen, not so sweet.

Can - it even says "olut" (beer in Finnish) though I have not seen this beer in Finland (BB 04/2005)
Paleish lager color, foamy white head. Metallic malt aroma. Decent malt flavor but watery palate. Short bitter aftertaste. I like this more than Baltika #5 though they got same rating. (3/2/5/2/9 2.1)
Pale yellow, small white head. Plastic corny malty aroma. Sweet malty, corn flavor. Crisp carbonated. Very similar to some Finnish bulk lagers. (3/2/3/2/7 1.7)

Bottled. Starts with a big frothy head that hangs around, atop a good amber body. Happy little "beer" smell, slightly better than your average "dark" beer. Taste is a little bit biscuity, but mouthfeel is somewhat watery. It’s labeled as "Original," so presumably this was the first style for this brand, but tellingly their advertising pushes the "3" pale lager. An alcohol burn sneaked up on me as I got to the bottom of my .5 l serving.

Bottled. Well, I’ve swigged quite a bit of cheap Russian beers over the past few days. This one tends to the good side except for an odd brief hint of ammonia I got when sniffing. But then it went away. A nce golden pilsener color with a mild head. A pretty nice malt base with a good hop balance.

0.5 l bottle for 50 rubles at a hotel bar, St. Petersburg, Russia. Pretty OK as these Russian beers go. Poured from the bottle, I got a thick rocky head that left a little lace as it dwindled. Color is a little bit hazy straw. There’s a brisk hefe smell, with some subdued banana that comes back in the, um, belch. Well balanced hop profile. Doesn’t stand up to other hefes, but for $1.67 at a hotel bar, whadaya want?

Bottled. Probably the beer to get when you’re in Russia. Nice maple smell, and pours with a notably brown rocky head. Has some good coffee roast malt notes, and then maple, and a little bit of honey, come back as you sip. In fact, it almost has some barley wine character that makes it well worth picking up.
