Bottled. Probably the beer to get when you’re in Russia. Nice maple smell, and pours with a notably brown rocky head. Has some good coffee roast malt notes, and then maple, and a little bit of honey, come back as you sip. In fact, it almost has some barley wine character that makes it well worth picking up.

Bottled. Hmm, it’s been a while since I had a malt liquor; think back to winter of ’89, I was hangin’ wit’ my homez, splitting a 40 of St. Ides at the White Castle on 115th... But this is a different time and place, specifically, Russia. Has the same cloying sweetness of a Baltika 3. Yes, I can already feel the alcohol headache coming on. I guess it’s just a shade below an inoffensive beer. Well, I was warned about the beer in Russia, wasn’t I?
Re-Rated, canned. Okay, trying it again, the alcohol warmth is kind of welcoming. There's still a big sugary taste, but for some reason it doesn't bother me as much.

Draft. Your standard issue beer for the proletariat. On my second sampling, I find some improvements from what I had originally written, though. Somewhat light in appearance, but still a pleasing gold, with a thin lagery head. The sugary taste I had on my first sample was absent the second time around, and there was a noticable hop balance; just to counteract the malt, with no eaxtra bitterness to spare. This is the most commonly available beer in St. Pete, and the brand that is most active in advertising and sponsorships. You can usually find a portable Baltika stand in front of most railroad stations and several trolley stops, with its blue and white identifiers.

A marvelous beer at a great price point that should have a much higher reputation than it has. A staple of my beer fridge in the winter. +++ Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer pours thick black and oily with a large brown head. The aroma is of sweet chocolate and a touch of roasty malts. . The flavor is smooth and malty with a strong element of baker’s chocolate. Long malty chocolate finish. Fairly full bodied and silky smooth.
