Description

Best until date 1996/97/98. Dark brown color. Huge head that disappears fast. Cherry aroma with hints of almond. Sour, dusty, vinous taste with cherries, wood and almond. Just a bit of rest sweetness present. A surprisingly good kriek.

tasted 1 year old and 3 years old. The 1 year old lambic has a bit of sulphur in the nose, a complex taste with apple, oak and a bit of pineapple. The 3-year-old is far more intense. A truly great beer. Re-rate: oude lambic CafΓ© St Anna, St Anna Pede. Again an incredably complex beer. Not very sour. Lemon, tobacco, wood, bubble gum, raspberries, apple, hops even, mustard. Absolutely great. My 3,5 year old rating still stands.

Pink color, no head. Raspberry aroma. Good lacing. Not very sweet, some raspberry flavor, but not on the foreground like Lindemans or Mort Subite. It's a permanent fight against the raspberries and the lambic. Raspberries are first, the lambic dominates the middle, then the strawberries fight back in the aftertaste. Exciting beer but not the best Girardin can offer.

Aroma has oak, citrus and honey. Sour, absolutely dry and oily. Oak, pineapple, citrus and hint of cherry in the flavor. Harsh yet smooth beer, complex and delicious. Itβs hard to find better beers. Re-rate: half the contents of this large bottle gushed out before I could pour. What a waste! Bought 1 year ago at the brewery. Delicious aroma of honey, mandarin and lemon. Full bodied, almost milky with oak, melon, lemon, banana even. An explosion of flavors on your tongue. Earthy, a grapefruity bitterness, sugary even, plastic. Every sip is an exploration of flavors and aromaβs. Immensely complex. A great beer, the rating is fully deserved. I will store the 5 bottles Iβve left for many more years.

Lovely aroma with lemon, oak and honey. Sweetish flavor with some sourness, but robbed from its backbone. Orange, oak, some saccharine bitterness, walnuts. The aroma is great but I must admit this beer lacks the power, bite and abundance of flavors the black label has. Still a good beer, though...

From a 10 litre plastic ton, bought at the brewery. Vinous, honey, grapes, mandarin and cherries in both aroma and flavor. Honey and cherry in the aftertaste, combined with lemon and wood. Perfect mix of drinkability and complexity. Will no doubt further gain in depth and complexity, now there are still some rough edges. I wish this would be the house beer of my local... @Grote Dorst in Eizeringen. March 2012. Golden color. Yoghurt and citrusfruit in the aroma. Mango. Milk, butter and bitter walnuts in the flavor. Very oaky. Vanilla, honey, mango, pineapple. Amazingly complex, but the bitterness was not really pleasant in this sample.

The owner of De Rare Vos in Schepdaal had closed for the day, but was friendly enough to fill my litre swing top bottle with this magic stuff. Ruby red color. Cherry and almond aroma. Sweetish cherry flavor with notes of cherry pits, almond and wood. No sugary sweetness, just the sweetness of the cherry fruit, with just a dash of lemon added. As I said, magic stuff! Cask @ De Rare Vos. Clear cherry red with reddish foam. Cherry, almonds and wood in the aroma. Cherry sweet flavor with some almonds and wood. Just a hint of sourness. A marvel of balance.

Bottled with a plastic cork, Girardin goes modern... Amber color. Not very much of an aroma. A vague woody caramelly touch. Sweet flavor, woody with lemon. Caramelly, dusty. A bit of nutty bitterness. Some sherry character. Likeable, but not my favorite from Girardin.

Bottle. Gold to light amber color, creamy head. A hint of honey i the aroma. Orange and honey in the flavor, combined with just a bit of hops. Tastes a bit like a diluted Girardin geuze white label, but certainly has complexity and a fine flavor. A pleasant surprise, but hardly a pilsener. Tap@ Oude Pruim Beersel. Golden color, hazy. Floral aroma with a hint of citrus. Floral citric hopbitter flavor/ Cellar aftertaste with a hint of citrus. I could swear there were some bretty notes.

Draught @ De Rare Vos Schepdaal. Is this beer a lambic, partly, yes. It is more like a flemish brown mixed with lambic, sort of a Jack Op. And a very good one! Strong aroma of caramel, wood and a hint of cherry. Sweetish, sourish caramelly flavor. Thin, with citrus and wood in the finish. Lovely!
