Description

Draught Disparate, near-transparent head, small but tenacious, over hazed amber-brown beer. Nice sourish nose, with dry white grapes and a touch of seafood (shrimp), lactic acid and probably some DMS. Finely coloured malts with lots of lactic acid and tannines. Vinous, if little MF - finish is a bit watery. Light, attenuated, no slickness but some filmy sensation. Very good sour, but it might benefit from being ’beefed up’ a little, bodywise.

Draught Medium, very fine & dense snowwhite head over faintly hazed yellow-orangeish beer. Sourish, lactic nose smelling from a mile off, but once close, more, if not utterly phenolic-tarry, to the detriment of anything else. Sourish- lactic returning in the mouth, and then, again, going completely towards the phenols-tarred poles, tarred sandpaper. And nothing else to experience. Medium bodied at best, well-attenuated, well-carbonated. Faint sourishness lingering on top of all the phenols in the aftertaste. A tad less phenols would have been welcome.

Beware of the Italians, this country is producing great beers since a few years. This one from Piemonte has matured on Barbera wine battles and has refermented with wine yeast - again an attempt to link the northern European beer culture with mediterranean wine culture. The result is a practically headless beer with cloudy golden blonde colour, boasting a complex aroma of obviously white wine, peach, apricot, wood, sherry, hay, jute, lemon juice, white grapes and something funky. Sourish, fruity taste, dry, vinous, ’wild’ and a bit lambic-like, complex, sherry, hay, citrus, sour cream, dry sourish, wine-like finish, long. Wonderfully complex, impetuous marriage of beer and wine.
