Description
Saku Õlletehas was established in 1820, when the owner of Saku manor, Karl Friedrich Rehbinder decided to set up a small brewery at his manor. Documentation has proven that the first brewing period at the Saku beer house took place in October 1820. By 1899, Saku Õlletehas had become the biggest brewery in North Estonia and had built its own railway line between Saku and Tallinn.

Throughout history, quality lager beer and Baltic porter have played a key role in the Saku beer portfolios. These beers have been exported all over the world, from the Russian Empire to the developed beer markets in Europe.

Big creamy light brown head over pretty deep dark red body with carbonation. Firm, harmonic sweet caramelly cinnamon aroma with marzipan and licorice notes and some pepper. Quite complex. Sweet firm peppery cinnamon licorice taste with dry, caramelly aftertaste with faint hop traces. Smooth mouthfeel, and quite a bit of alcohol heat. Good, but not as good as I remembered it. (0.5l bottle.)

Bottled at RBESG-06, GTN. Clear, pale golden, almost without head, just some white bubbles around the rim. Sweet and fruity aroma with some grainy notes. The flavor is fruity and grainy. Quite sweet mouthfeel, medium to thin body. Well hidden alcohol. (060826)

Bottle: Poured a golden yellow color lager with a bid bubbly white head with OK retention. Aroma of sweet malt with no discernable hops. Taste is refreshing but quite bland with some sweetness and subtle floral malt. By no mean it this a great beer but at least it is not full of brewing mistakes.
