Description
Saku Õlletehas was established in 1820, when the owner of Saku manor, Karl Friedrich Rehbinder decided to set up a small brewery at his manor. Documentation has proven that the first brewing period at the Saku beer house took place in October 1820. By 1899, Saku Õlletehas had become the biggest brewery in North Estonia and had built its own railway line between Saku and Tallinn.
Throughout history, quality lager beer and Baltic porter have played a key role in the Saku beer portfolios. These beers have been exported all over the world, from the Russian Empire to the developed beer markets in Europe.

An orange beer with a fast disappearing white head. The aroma is strongly alcoholic with light notes of fruit - almost with hints of wild fermentation? The flavor is sweet fruity (peaches) and malty and with the alcohol giving you the warmth. The end is dry.

An orange beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet alcohol, giving it an impression of metal, but also with light fruity notes - especially peaches are noticed. The flavor is sweet with a boring fruity note of peaches, and again the alcohol shines thru and takes a metal note with it. The end is dry and metallic. Too much alcohol or too simple for my liking.

A pitch black beer with a reddish shine and a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of coffee and dark chocolate as well as some roasted malt notes. The flavor is sweet with notes of roated malt turning more into a good coffee with a bitter coffee end, combined with very light notes of hops and a slight alcohol burn. The mouthfeel is straw

(Bottle 50 cl) Hazy pale golden with a handsome, white head leaving some laces. Typical wheaty notes full of banana and citrus. Sweetish malty with smooth, wheaty notes. A very decent Hefe. 130106

Bottled (BB 06/2006)
Pale golden color, decent foamy white head. Corn-malty, metallic aroma. Sweet malty flavor, even some honey. Medium-bodied. Some harshness in the finish. Not the worst of Saku pale lagers for sure. This one has some body and taste although eg. hops are not much present here.

More eurolager at the LCBO. Golden alger with a thin creamy white head, collapsed. Grainy malt in aroma with strawy notes. Some wet dog. Crisp corny malt, with mineral notes, a bit sweet, and metallic (sounds like Doug’s no?). A decent body for a lager.

An unclear light yellow beer with a huge head with a yellow tinge. The aroma has strong banana notes, but also some notes of citrus and dust. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of wheat and banana, combined with lesser notes of lemon, plastic, and metal, leading to a dry wheaty and hoppy end. The body is thin.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, fully golden with a pretty much absent head. Light aroma of alcohol. Quite full-bodied with a distinct sweetness and a strong alcohol. Rather weird, sharp, ashy bitterness. But far from the worst in this style. 290805
