Description
Saku Õlletehas was established in 1820, when the owner of Saku manor, Karl Friedrich Rehbinder decided to set up a small brewery at his manor. Documentation has proven that the first brewing period at the Saku beer house took place in October 1820. By 1899, Saku Õlletehas had become the biggest brewery in North Estonia and had built its own railway line between Saku and Tallinn.

Throughout history, quality lager beer and Baltic porter have played a key role in the Saku beer portfolios. These beers have been exported all over the world, from the Russian Empire to the developed beer markets in Europe.

(Bottle 50 cl) Fully golden but far from dark. Small fizzy head. Quite sweet and fullbodied, but the strong alcohol doesn’t shine through in any sickening way though. Has an odd slightly synthetic edge. Reminds me of cheap Danish malt liquors like "Brutalis" or "Danish Pride" - which is not really a recommendation... 311202

(Bottle 50 cl) Fully golden, not much head. Loads of impurities in this. Pronounced - if not excatly sickening - sweetness. And in spite of the high alcohol this isn’t that hard to drink as with most malt liquors. Apparently a beer aimed at the young discoteque-going Estonians complete with it’s own web-site: http://www.rock.ee/ 201102

(Bottle 50 cl) Golden with a fairly huge and stable head. Quite hoppy but the hops don’t really that much aroma. Pretty decent beer actually, just completely lacking personality. Exciting back-label in Estonian - I’m completely lost in that language.... 071102

(Bottle 50 cl) Pretty golden colour, with a neat little head. Extremely mild, just about no bitterness. Some sweetness and indeed very soft mouthfeel. Extremely quaffable without being spectacular in any way. 141002

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, filtered, bottom-fermented as most Estonians. Pronounced red-brownish colour, quite pretty. Huge head that unfortunately collapses quite fast. Malty, sweetish and almost no bitterness. Dark bock and as such not that bad. 031002

Bottled. Pale golden colour, not much head. Sweetish malty aroma with hints of alcohol. Malty flavour with strong alcohol taste. Also hints of honey. A bit bitter aftertaste. Wellbalanced, but a bit too much carbonation.

Bottled. Yellow coloured with big white head. Malt and hops in aroma. Very smooth taste compared to aroma. Mainly malt and hops in taste. Semi-bitter taste. Disappointment compared with other Saku’s I’ve had.
