About
Saku Õlletehas was established in 1820, when the owner of Saku manor, Karl Friedrich Rehbinder decided to set up a small brewery at his manor. Documentation has proven that the first brewing period at the Saku beer house took place in October 1820. By 1899, Saku Õlletehas had become the biggest brewery in North Estonia and had built its own railway line between Saku and Tallinn.

Throughout history, quality lager beer and Baltic porter have played a key role in the Saku beer portfolios. These beers have been exported all over the world, from the Russian Empire to the developed beer markets in Europe.

50cl bottle from Rimi, Tallinn. Pours dark, dark mahogany coloured with a modest, tanned head. Malty and caramelly with mild toasted notes and hints of wood. Sweet, caramelly and quite boring, but drinkable enough.

Bottle shared by Sladkyna zla. 5 years past its BBD. Med-thin body, medium carbonation. Light bitterness, light sweetness. Subtle phenolic and citrusy character. Good, easy drinking, even if a bit simple.

Bottle via Rimi, Tallinn. Medium body, rather high carbonation. Medium bitterness, med-high sweetness, remains in balance though, also light warmth cobtributing to that. Moderate chocolatey, slightly coffeeish, med-light dried fruits. Light artificialish caramel. Easy drinking, tasty, actually good.

Bottle via Rimi, Tallinn. The ABV and also the character of this beer almost put it in the porter territory. Medium body, med-high carbonation. Medium bitterness and medium sweetness. Med-light chocolatey and slightly coffeeish malt character, light caramel too. Also med-light dried fruit character present. Quite clean otherwise, no major flaws, easy drinking. Subtle warmth. Actually a good beer.

Bottle via Rimi. Med-thin body, rather high carbonation. Medium bitterness, medium sweetness, more or less balancing each other. Moderate chocolate, feeling quite artificial, also med-light toffeeish caramel. Med-light artificial orange. Overall not the most natural tasting beer, but I guess as far as flavoured macro beer goes, this is pretty ok.

Bottle via Rimi, Tallinn. Thin body, high carbonation. Lots of lightstruck - not sure how, but there is shitloads. Also some oxidation. Little else to be found here. It is tragic really.

Bottle via Rimi, Tallinn. Med-high sweetness, medium bitterness. Quite assertive honey presence, tastes like beer mixed with mead, but the low-quality cheap waxy stuff. And the ABV does not suggest any real fortification at all. It is just a honey-flavoured industrial lager after all, with not very big focus on quality. Bonus points for actually being pretty honeyish though.
