Description
Established in 2004 by Robert Wicks, the Westerham Brewery Company is proud to bring brewing back to the historic town of Westerham. With a rich brewing heritage, Westerham can once again be proud of locally brewed, top quality real ales. Producing exceptional craft beer for the local market, we support the initiative to reduce food miles in the supply chain. Many ‘national brands’ are transported long distances and suffer from poor storage and handling.

Westerham Brewery Company has revived many of the much-loved flavours of the old Black Eagle Brewery, which closed in 1965 following the catastrophic consolidation by the ‘Big Brewers’ in the 1950’s. The yeast is re-cultured from the Black Eagle strain.

Gravity at the Grape and Grain Spring Beer Festival 2011. It pours amber with low carbonation and a thin off-white head. The nose is wood, dark fruit and berries and caramel. The taste is oak, varnish, vanilla, red berries, apricot, lemon peel and parma violets, with a boozy, wood finish. Decent old-style strong ale.

Thanks to Finn for a 500ml bottle of this one. Has got a cloudy, copper-orange body with a thin, off-white head containing lots of dimples and leaving spotty lacing behind. Fruity malts to the nose. Leafy hops backed by caramel malts to the taste buds. Mild bitter end that lasts for a while. Standard, well-balanced English bitter (Tromsø, 20.01.2011).

A BBE 31.5.08 bottle but has been stored cool and dark. Hazy light brown beer. Dry and a little bitter although some smooth malt provides some relief. Boney dry finish - much to much so. Overall not a good un!

A light bitter that isn’t that bitter! Mild tang and a light malt. Not too much fruit but quite drinkable.
