Description
Established in 2004 by Robert Wicks, the Westerham Brewery Company is proud to bring brewing back to the historic town of Westerham. With a rich brewing heritage, Westerham can once again be proud of locally brewed, top quality real ales. Producing exceptional craft beer for the local market, we support the initiative to reduce food miles in the supply chain. Many ‘national brands’ are transported long distances and suffer from poor storage and handling.

Westerham Brewery Company has revived many of the much-loved flavours of the old Black Eagle Brewery, which closed in 1965 following the catastrophic consolidation by the ‘Big Brewers’ in the 1950’s. The yeast is re-cultured from the Black Eagle strain.

500ml bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Lovely copper colour with thick beige head. Lovely English hop aroma and flavour. Malts are just about right, they carry the hops well, with just enough caramel. Then this big hit of sherbert led earthy herby hop kicks in. Really strong hop finish. Yes some bitterness, but really sherbert sting hop. Really good condition in the mouth too. Just love that finishing hop.

[500ml bottle from Bodiam Castle, near Hastings] Light copper with a moderate off-white head. Orange dominates, but there’s a pleasant balance of dry leaves and a moderate earthy bitterness. Apple comes through in the finish to add to the fruitiness. Top notch and very satisfying beer, lovely stuff.
