Description
Established in 2004 by Robert Wicks, the Westerham Brewery Company is proud to bring brewing back to the historic town of Westerham. With a rich brewing heritage, Westerham can once again be proud of locally brewed, top quality real ales. Producing exceptional craft beer for the local market, we support the initiative to reduce food miles in the supply chain. Many ‘national brands’ are transported long distances and suffer from poor storage and handling.

Westerham Brewery Company has revived many of the much-loved flavours of the old Black Eagle Brewery, which closed in 1965 following the catastrophic consolidation by the ‘Big Brewers’ in the 1950’s. The yeast is re-cultured from the Black Eagle strain.

Cask at Merton Beer Festival, Oxfordshire, July 7th and 8th 2006. Pale gold brew, with a variety of hop that I can’t recall having come across before. This hop didn’t quite stamp its authority on this beer like some of the better known more traditional varieties but nontheless it went some way to produce an interesting beer that seemed quite a popular easy drinking and refreshing. Very summery with some citrusy flavours, a little bit flowery in the aroma stakes and would be a good session beer at this time of year.

Cask gravity at Rare Breeds BF 2006. Pale gold, with thin white lasting head. Pear drop hop aroma. Some juicyness in mouth with good hop finish. I like the hops on this. Yep. Not as intense as US IPAs can be, but still good.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 06. Easy drinking session bitter. Gold, thin white head. Some subtle hop. Yes, very drinkable. Could happily sip this all day. 3.0 Re-rate cask gravity at The Red Lion, Snargate. For a 3.5% beer its superb. Looks good, Burton snatch aroma, some caramel on swallow and then reasonably hard hop on end.

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2005] An orange beer with a small light orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy - somewhat light, with the flavor being sweet with lots of diacethyl combined with light notes of mango, leading to a bitter fruity end.
