On tap at Cask Republic - New Haven, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops, with some earthiness and toasted biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with fresh piney hops, crisp biscuity malt and a touch of citrusy bitterness. Crisp and bold. Very good.

Can pour into nonic pint glass. Appearance is hazy yellow with slight orange and greenish tinge, decent sparkle, finger-width white foamy head with poor retention and minimal leggy lacing. Aroma is strong tropical fruit away from the glass and herbal muskiness with your nose right in it; hint of grape. Taste is initial subtle grape overtaken by dominant herbal muskiness, late bitter, subtle pine. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, lively carbonation and dry, musky and bitter finish. Overall, the fruity aspect of Vic Secret is largely absent with more of the herbal, piney qualities coming through. That makes it somewhat different but the level of muskiness isn't altogether pleasant.

On tap in pint glass at the brewery. Appearance is bright, hazy yellow with mild greenish tinge, no discernible sparkle, finger-width white foamy head with fair retention. Aroma is herbs, coconut and milder pineapple. Taste is herbal, then coconut and mix of pineapple and bitter at the end. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and finish is dry mix of sweet and bitter. Overall, a curious mix of herbs, sweet and bitter but tasty.

Taster pour at the brewery. Appearance is almost opaque black with reddish-brown at the edges of the glass, no discernible sparkle, ring of beige head with fair retention. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Taste is coffee, chocolate, roasted malts (almost burnt). Palate is light bodied with silky, frothy texture, soft carbonation and dry finish as taste. Overall, this is a strong offering that goes down smoothly.

Taster pour at the source. Appearance is clear, light brown/dark orange, no sparkle, thin ring of white head with poor retention and spotty lacing. Aroma is mild herbs. Taste is herbs, bitter, and cracker malts. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, frothy texture, average carbonation and dry, crisp cracker and light bitter finish. Overall, decent but not as complex as the description. Might be deserving of more than a taster pour.

Can pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance is hazy (fine dark particulates), dark orange, with decent sparkle, finger-width rocky foam head with good retention and lots of soapy lacing. Aroma is strong tropical fruit and grapefruit, milder earth and herbs. Taste is strong herb/scallion, mild sweet citrus and grapefruit, late resin bitter. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, average-to-lively carbonation and bittersweet finish. Overall, aroma is nicer than taste but it still works and has nice complexity and balance.
