Description
On a small abandoned farm back in 2002 William Frank and Else Birk started a small brew house focusing on quality and good craftsmanship. The brewery was not far from where the Grauballe man (a bog body that was uncovered in 1952 from a peat bog) was found - hence the name Grauballe Bryghus.

Grauballe Bryghus was in these premises until the year 2013. By then it had grown so big that it was time to move to larger premises where it is today.

On tap at Copenhagen Beerfestival. A hazy, orange-brown beer with a small,. off-white head. Sweet, sugary nose wtih some hints of beefstock, and pineapple from the hops. The flavor is much the same, lots of malty sweetness blending with fruity hops and pineapple. Alcohol too. Long bitter finish with topical fruits. Full-bodied and warming, a bit on the sugary side. A quite tasteful and warming beer

From tap at Ølbaren. Pours hazy dark brown head. Aroma is hoppy, mild acidic and slight breadish. Dense malty flavoured, sweet sugarish, mild acidic and fruity hoppy flavoured. Sweet and young malty barley wine flavoured. Light bitter finish with a persisting fruity flavour. Too young and unrefined in profile to really come through, note experiment though.

Draft. A hazy red-chestnut colored beer with a lazing orangey head. The aroma has over ripe fruits, hops, and syrup - reminds me of US Barley Wine. The flavor is sweet with notes of syrup, over ripe fruits, hops, and bread, as well as light notes of alcohol. The body is thick and syrupy, leading to a lightly bitter finish with a light alcohol burn on the tongue.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear, warm dark brown with a warm redish hue and an off-white head. Hard roasted malt aroma, with some leathery Brett accents. Full-bodied, dry hard roasted maltiness and a whiff of smoke. Astringent, leathery finish with some malt bitterness. I’m not too sure the Brett accents are intended ind this completely fresh bottle, but they add a most magnificent touch. 170509
