Description
In 1564 for the first time a brewery is mentioned in Svijany. In the following years the brewery was owned by different families. In 1912 it was bought by brewer Antonín Kratochvíle. The Kratochvíle family operated the brewery till 1939. After the war the brewery was confiscated and later nationalized. in 1990 the state enterprise Vratislavice nad Nisou was created, which included Svijany Brewery. In 1998 the company Pivovar Svijany was created, which became the new owner of the brewery. In 2005, it was transformed into a joint-stock company. Gradually Svijany became the strongest regional brand with national importance. The popularity of the brewery is increasing and it is gradually being developed into one of the largest independent breweries in the Czech Republic.
Svijany Brewery is wholly Czech owned and remains one of the last in ‚domestic‘ hands.

500ml bottle. Opalescent, orange, dark golden to amber colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Slightly bready, minimally spicy, malty and herbal-grassy, hoppy aroma, hints of grey bread. Taste is fairly bitter, grassy, herbal-spicy hoppy, minimally bready, malty basis with low residual (caramel) sweetness, hints of grey bread, a touch of caramel, nettle, light mineral aspects; lingering, bitter hoppy finish. OIly-watery texture, smooth and super-soft, simultaneously dry palate, very fine, dense, prickly carbonation. Relatively bitter but still balanced, good mouthfeel - very nice.

500ml bottle. Opalescent, dark yellow-ish, bright golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Minimally bready and spicy, pale malty and grassy-spicy, hoppy aroma, hints of grey bread, caraway-spiced bread. Taste is minimally bready, pale malty with slightly sugary, but overall low residual sweetness, mildly grassy-spicy hoppy with a mineral touch, light grape sugar induced fruitiness in the middle part. Oily-watery texture, smooth and soft palate, fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Quite basic, simple and monotonous, fairly refreshing and drinkable - OK.

Pours a beautiful deep golden to lightest orange, with a healthy frothy white head; good enough retention, very nice lacing. Delicately fresh aroma: slightest malty base (hay, cereal), followed by herbal/grassy notes with a lemonish touch and a bit of soapy feel. Taste notes follow the aroma, with cerealy sweetness/base more prominent than the smell suggested and grassiness more on the back. However, sweetness and bitterness are both mild and the beer aims mostly for high drinkability and simplicity. Good at that, though not very interesting. Light bodied, average carbonation; very easy, decently lively mouthfeel. Nice svetle vycepni
