Description

Bottle @ Willems, Grobbendonk. Pours cloudy dark amber with a large head. Nose is yeast with a good layer of fresh hops beneath. Citrus and grapefruit. Good malts. Chewy caramel, bread and tobacco with citrus hops balancing. A good hoppy amber ale!

More like a Brown Pete than a Black one. Really strong citrus in the aroma and flavour especially grapefruit. This leads to a really juicy feel. It’s pretty low on the described chocolate and malts but that’s not a problem.

Thick dense cream head over deep-red, opaque beer. Fruity, fragrant, just lightly roasted nose. Dry hoppy aromas. Again lightly roasted, (roaste) straw, dry cacao. Well-carbonated, hopoil-slick, medium bodied. Nice, but the nose had me prepared for more and better.

Hazy amber to dark amber color, full sized off-white head that lasts for quite a long time. Aroma is malts and firmly hoppy, light to moderately fruity. Taste malts, a hint of orangepeel, some hops, some fruitpeel bitter, bitter. Decent body, firm a bit fizzy carbonation. How on earth is this a black IPA? I’d call this a moderately hoppy amber ale. Average at best, personally quite a disappointment.

Dark copper colored, unclear, medium beige lasting head with nice lacing. Aroma is of caramel, some light chocolate and toasted malt and strong citrus and fruity hops. Taste is medium sweet malt, caramel and some roasted mostly in finish, moderate+ citrus and fruity hoppy aroma, medium bitterness, bit bready yeasty in the finish. Medium bodied, average carbonation, oily. IPA on point, the black part is a bit subdued. (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)
