Description
Hop Back Brewery Ltd was formed in October 1991 by John Gilbert and we moved to a small industrial unit in Downton, just south of Salisbury. After refurbishment and installation, brewing on the new 20 barrel plant started in June 1992.

In 2012 Hop Back celebrated its 25th birthday, having retained John’s original philosophy and passion for beers that he would want to drink.

Sampled cask conditioned. Chestnut brown. Ashy aroma. very mild, very fruity, some crystal malt characterm, hint of smoke. Very mild. An unusual beer that grew on me.

Golden coloured. Overly sweet & one dimensional. Disappointing lagerlike real ale.

Pale yellow with majestic head. The lemongrass is dominating this beer, and makes me think off wahing-up liquid, and I can't say I find it particularly pleasant. But than I don't like lemongrass either.

Unbelievably high rating at the Great British Beer Festival. I still find the use of extremely bitter hops totally out of hand. Probably the first pint of my life that I was unable to finish. Undrinkable. If you guys like it, fine. I just don't. Sorry.

Golden coloured. Floral hop aroma. Rather sweet, medium bodied, soapy big hop aroma. Late lingering bitterness.

Cask @ The Bell. Hazy blonde. Fruity, maybe earthy mushroomy aroma. Toasty, herbal character. Ok - maybe a bit bland. I didn’t understand this one in the bottle and I don’t understand the appeal on cask either.
