Description
Averbode Abbey beer is a tribute to history: from the 14th to the early 20th century the abbey was already actively engaged in brewing. For the production of the ‘new’ abbey beer the abbey opted for Brouwerij Huyghe, which also has a rich history of its own.
However, there are also similarities. Respect for the environment and society play a central role in the brewery. Indeed, Brouwerij Huyghe is the only brewery in Belgium to produce the Mongoza-beer that has received the fair trade, gluten free and organic label. It also actively invests in a smaller footprint and social employment.

Dommage.

From the bottle. Gold, effervescent, with a tall, foamy head. Aroma full of bready, yeasty undertones with bubblegum and a light fruitiness. Taste is predominately sweet with white bread and honey on the tongue. Medium body. Well carbonated. Not bad

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Pretty sure I already rated this one some three years ago but Ratebeer disagrees with me, so here it is again. Hazy light golden with a big white head. Fruity spicy yeasty aroma. Bittersweet taste. Very Belgian golden ale. Decent but unsurprising.

Average and a little underwhelming, but no major flaws other than a touch too much sweetness. Some florals and a little hay. Golden pour with ok head. Fairly clean finish. Tap at Craft in Toronto.

Smell - medium strong, some hops, maybe really weak caramel or sweetness. Foam - carbonated, some bitterness to it, not creamy, little acidic, gets really high. Taste - generally bitter, but not too much, carbonated, bitter aftertaste for some time. Not bad, but expected better.

At a tasting, medium long lasting bubbly head, clear yellow color with a greenish tinge, aroma of candy, rose water, roots and floral hints, candy flavor with roots and a pleasant yeastiness, medium bodied, not too heavy. Supprisingly nice and enjoyable.
