Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

bottle@βt Waagstuk: very deep dark brown, mahogany with an off-white head, dark sweet, slightlyl roasted malt which has a touch of buttermilk & dark berries, thick caramel, sweet dark fruits, mild sourness in the aftertaste, lots of nuts, very unusual like the other Witkap beers, great stuff

bottle@βt Waagstuk: clear yellow with a white head, this is definitely a very unusual beer, very sweet with a strong buttermilk flavour as well as caramel, sweet fruits, some odd candy, flowers & minor tea, malt, sweet spices, medium carbonation & body, took a while getting used to but quite enjoyable actually but still rather odd

Hazy yellow colored beer, pretty standard. Smell some spices or herbs, donβt like it anyway. Taste isnβt much better, carbo and body ok.

Poor abbey dubbel in my opinion. Nice color but musty and sour smell and taste. Yuk!

Bottle at a tasting. Thanks Dror. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is a bit stale with some malt and fruits. Sweetish spicy flavor with some malt, yeasty notes and a bit of sourness. Finishes dry. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Need to try a fresher bottle.
