Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

One of the worst Triples I have ever had. Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a cloudy pale yellow color with a medium sized foamy white head that left some lacing. The aroma was yeast, vague citrus, sweettart candies and egg white. The flavor was tart and sour with sweettart candies, egg white, lemon and chalk. The finish was medium length and dryish with chalk and tart citrus lingering. Medium body. Very disappointing.

Bottle from Beer Merchants. Cloudy golden pour with a white head. Wheat, nuts and herbs in the nose. Fruity, citrus tang, a little grapefruit in there too. Fruity, dry finish. Does the job.

Cloudy pale gold beer. Crisp palate, light. Refreshing beer. Reminds me of a well made St Clemens - dominated by light ornage and with a nice dash of lemon.

Clear dark brown with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet, caramel malt, yeasty, dried fruit, raspberry?. Flavor is moderate sweet and the body is light. The finish is light acidic and sweet. Too much carbonation. 190111

Sharp pale cloudy beer. Initial citrus burst gives way to a dry and somewhat bitter malty finish.

Zesty and intensely floral. Lemon tones. An unusual Pils and a good one.

Somewhat cloudy pale yellow beer, thick creamy white head, stable & adhesive. Aroma: spices, yeast, cheese, coriander. MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: sour, lemon, sour apple, sour cherries. Aftertaste: lemon, green apple. Apparently it's not supposed to taste sour, but this one clearly does. According to the beer shop (Geers) the brewer has been having trouble making a stable beer of constant quality. Well, this batch clearly sucked b*lls.

spicy, chocolaty aroma with dried fruits, baby diaper, tangy fruit as well. Interesting and original nose, licorice too. Very funky flavor, spicy and again somewhat vegetal or manure-like! Licorice, earth, low sweetness, root beer, dry yet not really bitter. A strange bird, this is...slightly acidic, mossy, medicinal; palate a bit thin. Original, for sure, but one is enough.

Cloudy yellow to ocher coloured beer, white thick head with big bubbles in it. Aroma: quinces (yes!), yeast, fruity, bready, rotten fruit. MF: ok carbon, medium body, bit watery texture. Taste: citrus fruits, quinces, a little malt. Very unpleasant tart finish and hops. This beer is a bit off, or at least I hope so. Calls for a re-rating. Best before dates seems to be expired 6 months (thank you beer shop!).
