Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Pours dark brown with a large off-white head.Nose shows treacle and bready malt along with some floral hops. Pretty hoppy actually, especially for the style, but still nice.Flavours are similar but less sweet and with more doughy, bready yeast. Finishes kinda weak.Body is watery, especially considering the rich flavours.

Pours pale yellow with a lasting small head.Heavy grassy hops dominate the aroma at first, followed by doughy Belgian yeast and soft phenols. No sign of those hops as a flavour, just bready, grainy malt and the doughy yeast. Finishes with a weak metallic bitterness.Carbonation is too high by far.

Location: Draft at Moeder Lambic, 8/11/10

Aroma: Light roast, slightly sweet, some maltiness, some caramel
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a nice beige head
Flavor: The taste is pretty malty, some roasted sweetness to it
Palate: This one drinks really nicely, it has a decent mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: I liked this one. A Dubbel with a nice roasted malt flavors that just seems to work pretty well. I like this beer. A good example of the style.

Aroma is of wood and hay. Pours with a small head, and a foggy bright yellow body. Tastes like fermented grass, some nuttiness. Uncomplex and not refreshing. Watery finish. Not my glass of beer, in fact none of the Witkap Paters caught my fancy.

Pours dark amber-brown with little head. Aroma of spicy barley and malts. Taste is a watery mix of barley, grass, hay, and alcohol. Weak on the palate. Not impressive to me.

Very good head on top of a light gold colour. Has a heavy hops aroma with some barley. The flavour is odd, grassy with barley, very earthy and vegetable-like. Has a sweet finish with an insecticide aftertaste. It’s a strange mix of flavours that I found completely unappealing.
