Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Bottle picked up at Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgium, June 2010 consumed 24-07-10 Pours light gold (bit dull in appearance) with a white head. The aroma is a tiny bit sour and fruity. This is soft in the mouth and a little rough if truth be known most unlike a Belgian, some spice and fruit but there was nothing here to rescue what is ultimately a well below average beer. 23/07/2010 - 33cl bottle at home

Little clouded darkbrown beer. Almost no head. Smells sweet, roasted malts, some dried fruits. Full body. A little sour with mainly roasted malts as taste. Aftertaste is a little roasted, some acidity and coffee. Not the most exciting beer, but definetely not bad either.
my 100th beer rating! :-)

Had this at the Pittsburgh Great European Beer Festival at the Sharp Edge Beer Emporium 6/2010. Cloudy vanilla yellow to the eye. Slight haze. Big bubble on the head. Nice friendly initial taste. Interestingly plastic. Mild and easy to live with. Friendly nose, smells good. Some CO2, just enough. Watered down alky finish, in a good way. Very nice trippel, hides the alky well. Enjoyable and refined for a change.

Bottle filled to the brim, turning itself into masses of white foam (incredibly stable) upon pouring; very pale golden beer with a light greenish shine; looking for all the world as whipped eggwhite left alone too long. Reeks of coriander, touches of "citrus", raw egg (indeed!) and spiced milk. Tastes spicy, coriander agian, bit of pepper, and very faint lemon. After some time, soft sweetness, bit weeiig and always perfumed with the C-word. Very lively carbonated, foam seems intended as a pie-joke from a B-movie, light to medium bodied. I did not know that coriander had becomen endemic to the Kempen. If lemon and pepper are too, then global warming has reached catastrophic proportions indeed... It’s just the umpteenth Belgian wit...

Yeasty kibble and toffee nose, some alcohol. Yellow with brown floating sludge, thick white puffy head. Sour yeasty kibble flavor. Leather finish. Probably not a fresh sample.

Bottle, labelled _Witkap Pater Stimulo_. Hazy orange with a small white head. Nose has cloves, coriander, orange and earthy yeast. Creamy mouthfeel. Orange and nectarine fruit sweetness with a little yeasty sourness that’s like an old lime. Touches of spice that otherwise don’t come through are there in the rather sweet finish. Pleasant and very refreshing, but lacks intrigue.

Slightly hazy orange with a small white head. Restrained aroma of orange, grass, coriander seeds. Light fruity malt sweetness with a fair hop bite and a little astringency and overt alcohol at the end. Quite light tasting and light-bodied for the style with the considerable carbonation often found in tripels being there but seeming a little softer. A little thin on the sweet malt and yeasty dank but a nice texture and finish.

Very light-bodied. I’d almost call this a "summer" Belgian ale. Semi sweet. Rated 3/22/03

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Brownish red clear, thick beige head. It’s a decent dubbel with some lovely brown malts and some very good hops actually. Little bit of fruit too. Very good malts though.

Bottle. Deep red/brown pour with a large beige head. Aroma of fruit. Tastes fruity, sweet, hoppy, hint of sourness. A quite complex Belgian dubbel, decent stuff.
