Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Backlog February 2009. Pale golden body under a fine, dense, off-white head. Aroma is fruity, a bit floral and hint of dry fruit. Taste is refreshing fruity with some bitterness. Light in body and a bit short in aftertaste. Drinkable but not impressive.

330ml bottle, Christmas present from Eric. Deep brown, large tan head, Aroma of brown ale malt, yeast. Flavour profile is for me more in line with a standard brown ale than a rich sweet dubbel. Hints of cake with some dark fruit notes. Ok.

Bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours blonde with a decent fluffy white head. The aroma is fragrant, floral, herbal, some spice, cereal, nuttiness, very fruity, stone fruits, dried apricot, persimmon, tangerine, orange squash, marmalade, melon and pear drops. The taste is firm, pretty dry, grassy, herbal, touch of green bitterness, fragrant, floral, pithy citrus, tangerine, bitter orange peel, dried apricot, dried florals, peppery spice, earl grey tea, touch of tannin and fairly subdued alcohol presence with a drying, herbal finale. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Quite a unique tripel. Herbal and citrussy. Tasty one.

Pours a clear golden with a white head. Aroma of grains, slightly fruity, yeasty and some hops. Decent pale ale, but I had better hopes for this one, it’s not what I seek in a Christmas Ale.
