Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Bottle. Poured golden with a huge white head. Aroma was reminded me a bit of white wine, a bit odd. Flavor is nice a bit of tartness under a sweet honey flavor. Enjoyed it.

Bottle from Ledger’s. Pours a near ruby color with a creamy beige head. Aromas of dates and raisin. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is date/raisin, brown sugar malt with some mild hop. It has a sharp note - leather? It is a bit astringent. It’s a bit earthy. Certainly drinkable. Hard to decipher. It’s going rather tangy with time.

Bottle: Hazy, golden with a big fluffy and quickly collapsing white head; distinctive noble-hoppy nose with a sweet pale-malty background; solid bitter-sweet flavour, soft, silky MF, light to medium bodied; lingering noble hoppy finish, balanced by a good dash of sweet pale malt. A very fine belgian Lager of unexpected quality.........
