Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

bottle, pours light gold, thin white head. Mild malt and skunky hop and cannibus aroma. Light malt, smarties, sugar, and a mild honey note in the flavor department, actually not that bad. Carbonation is a tad too much with a Very crisp moutheel that makes it hard to take in much at a time.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a dark cream colored head. Rich malt aroma with yeast and plum/fig fruitiness. Spicy, caramel flavor with plum/raisin fruitiness. Medium body. Dried and dark fruits linger with caramel and some spice.

Bottle at Poechenellekelder. Hazy amber color. Good beige head. Solid fruit and yeast aromas. Med. body with smooth carbonation. Flavor is mildly suggestive of wood or funk - with lots of fruits. Dry. Finishes with light bursts of citrus. A clean tasting beer. Ends up something herbal after awhile. Very, very good.

(33cl bottle) Slightly unclear, pale golden colour with a big and dense, slightly cream-coloured foamy head. Slightly dusty malty and minimal acidic and subtle citrus-fruity aroma with a touch of barnyard and sour dough. Mildly sweet-bitter flavour with a whiff of acidity, light to medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Soft pale malt-character with light fruity undertones of citrus, grapefruit; almost dry, slightly bitter and faint woody hoppy finish (17.IV.09).

Bottle: Milky, pale golden to golden, small creamy layer; sweetish fruity nose with a distinctive hoppy touch (not white wine, IMHO); solid bitter-sweet flavour, quite light bodied, creamy MF; spicy-hoppy ad fruity-grainy finish. Unusual, but much more interesting than many sweet tripels.............

Bottle. There’s some microfloaties in it, giving it a hazy, orange body. Nice off-white head. Fruitysweet on the nose with orange and some lemon, and a tiny sourness in the back. The flavor goes in the same fruity direction, and has some bitterness as well. Medium to full body. Bitter finish with some fruity sweetness. A delicate beer, but slightly boring. And to me, not very Easter-ish. (090213)
