Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Deep maroon brown colour, thin head. Malty aroma with hints of fruit. Flavour has different layers of rich fruit and malt. Texture is smooth and a little oily. Aftertaste is the same as the main flavour of the beer which makes it very moorish.

Super hazy light blonde coloured body with a nice white head that leaves a perfect lacing on the glass. Aroma of coriander seed, wheat, hay, grass, flowers, hummus and some light hops. Full-bodied; Strong sweetness throughout with honey and malt the most noticeable. Aftertaste is very mellow and the flavour lasts and lasts. Overall, a good tripel - missing some complexities of other belgiques, but a good one overall. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 29-October-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottle, picked up from The Hop Duvel, Gent, Belgium, consumed 26-12-07 Pours chesnut brown with an off-white head and the cheekiest of red glints shining through. This initially tasted a bit thin (no bad thing and quite a relief after all of those heavier beers) Gentle carbonation sends bubbly sweet malts and unripe plum flavours whipping through the mouth, a really lovely fruitiness to this beer. Found this quite intriguing and a change from the bigger brasher beers, it really hits the spot. Very nice.

A hazy yellow ale with a thin white head. A very nice aroma of wild yeast, like Orval , with flowers, lemons and hops. In mouth, crisp malts with subdued candy sugar, nice Brett overtones, and smooth and pleasing mouth feel. A classy triple. Bieropholie 2006. BB Sept 2007.
