Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

A lightly hazed dark brown ale with a thick light moka head. Aroma is vinous, with plums, molasse, and alcohol. In mouth, a classy licorice malt, with aniseed, butterscotch, some candy sugar, and nice alcohol and hops in finale. Very well balanced and put together. Bieropholie private import 2006. BB Nov. 2007.

Aroma is something like honey and lemon. Very hazy gold color with a decent white head. Thin body with fizzy carbonation. Refreshing is the first impression. Something of yeast, spice and light caramel. Numerous fruit notes, like banana, citrus, peach. The finish is dry and citrus fruit. A really good drink.

Hazy dark straw. Thin white head. The aroma is perfumey, spicy (coriander, black pepper), slightly yeasty (dust, foot) with accents of icing sugar and marmalade. Very yeasty (dust) on the palate with hints of marmalade, lime, baguette. Good, well-balanced tripel but I wish the complexity of the aroma translated to the palate.

Bottle, shared by yespr. Yellow, almost clear pour, with a big, white head. Gushed out of the bottle. Fruity-sour aroma and flavor. I guess Brett or whatever it is wasn’t intended in this lager beer. Medium to thin body, astringent mouthfeel. Some bitterness in the finish, else it is just sour. Strange or gone bad? (071005)
