Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Dark brown color, frothy light brown head. Brown sugar, whisky burnt raisins in nose. Light body, slightly sour, milk chocolate mouth. Not really balanced and the sourness distracts from the beer. Burnt raisin brown sugar finish.

Stimulo Bottle. Perfumed peachy nose. Hazy orange with champagne bubbles and a off-white lacing head. Fairly fruity - peaches, citrussy and clovelike notes on top. Bubbly light body, still dangerously drinkable.

Bottled. Cloudy yellow colour with huge creamy head. Aroma is citrus fruits, yeast and slight cooked vegetables. Flavour is wheat, acidic fruits and cooked vegetables. The vegetably notes seem to be something typical for the witkap series atleast. In a bad way. This would be nice, if it wouldn’t be for the vegetably notes. hides it’s alcohol% very well. Nice palate in this one too, pleasantly carbonated and also the flavour makes a kind of fullflavoured mouthfeel.

Bottled. Dark brown, almost opaque colour, mediumsized brown foamy head. Aroma is peas, caramel and spices. Flavour contains peas, caramel and cooked vegetables. Quite fullbodied, but sadly not very pleasant as to the aroma and flavour.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 8 Dec) Golden yellow colour with rocky, white head. Malty nose with lovely aromas of grassy hops, notes of cereal and white bread. Malty, bready taste with a hoppy finish loaded with grassy hops and hints of citrus. Rather uncomplicated but well constructed with a nice hop character.
