Description
The brewery Slaghmuylder was founded in 1860 by Emmanuel Slaghmuylder. Around the turn of the century his son Ernest took over the company. He married Marie Van Roy, daughter of a brewer family of Wieze. His three sons opened a new brewery in 1926 which could start immediately with the new brewing process for lager beer. During the war of 1940-1945 brewing restarted for high-fermentation ales. It is only in1958 that the brewery started again with the production of low-fermentation beers. In the mid sixties the three brothers were succeeded by their sons. From 1979 on, the three nephews started brewing the Witkap Pater beers on request of brewery "De Drie Linden" from Brasschaat. In 1981 the Witkap Pater brand was officially taken over by Slaghmuylder. Beginning of theeighties the brewery was equipped with separate fermentation and layering cellars for both high and low fermentation beers. Brewery Slaghmuylder remains a unique family company that builds on a rich tradition.

Pleasant clove and yeast aroma in this white beer (hazy creamcorn yellow with thick white head.). Dry and hoppy for a wit, with a phenolic end and metallic overtones...a bit too harsh for pleasant drinking...

Blond color; creamy head. Flowery aroma, with some hops. Good balance of malt and hop; smooth, quite spicy, most of all the late mouthfeel is enjoyable, with a soft maltiness and a quite aromatic hopping.

A yellow beer with no head. The aroma is sweet and sour (probably from brewing cereal). The flavor is also sweet and sour but with a rather hoppy end with some oily hints, but on a sour corn background. The body is thin.

Huge, slightly orangey head; orange-gold, clear beer. Bit biscuity nose (nothing to do with ageing). Fruity yeast-aromas take over (orangezest), but also spicey (garden herbs, like chamomille). Taste varies between malt, even grainy, and bitterish-spicey. Initial taste is aromatic-citrus, but gets retronasally overwhelmed by the spicey notes. At one point even quite hop-bitter, but this wears off. Rather light bodied. Bit of adstringency. Beer is quite aromatic, but pulls in too many directions at once. As if the brewer couldn’t make up his mind. The result is not balance, which characterizes most Slaghmuylder products, but indecisiveness.

An unclear brown beer with a disappearing head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of berries especially black currant, but also raisins. The flavor is of prunes and raisins on a slightly sour background.

A deep red beer with a beutiful beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of yeast, corriander, and plums. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of corriander and plums giving way to a dry hoppy end. The body is thin - especially considering the 8% ABV.
