About
It all started in 1986. Sure, many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, but much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends.
In July 2014, Harpoon became an employee owned company, with 48% of the company given to employees through the establishment of an ESOP. An E-what? ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It is a mechanism by which a company contributes to its employees’ retirement by allocating shares to them which it repurchases…..yadda, yadda, yadda… Here’s what it means: we are employee owned, we are an independent craft brewer, and you bet we’re damn proud of it.
In 2024, Harpoon and Smuttynose merged, forming Barrel One Collective.

Jet black with a rich light brown head. Sweet, light dark chocolate and some cream notes. Chocolate, light sweetness and creme. Light and not quite sure where this is going.

Cloudy copper with a rich beige head. Sweet candy, jelly and pastry. Almost like a old school scratch and sniff. Sweet jelly and some coconut, vanilla and bitterness. Not sure what to think of this, it is accurate, just weird.

12 oz can, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out light earthy coffee and some artificial sweetness. Flavour reveals a very weak coffee, with light roast and medium artificial sweetness. I guess they're using Dunkin Donuts coffee, so this coffee character sucks ass. Not terrible but pretty lame.

12 oz can, pours a red-tinted dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is like a jelly donut, with a touch of cocoa and sweetness. Flavour isn't too bad, with earthy notes, light turmeric, and donut-like sweetness. There's no depth or complexity. It's inoffensive, but a pointless gimmick beer.

12 oz can, pours a cloudy bright orange with a small white head. Aroma is pretty artificial and ridiculous, with jelly donut, jam, and sugar candies. Flavour is pretty absurd, with sugar candies, artificial jelly donut, and some bitterness from the hops in back. A terrible idea with not much better execution.

12 oz can, pours a hazy dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of a full of nutmeg and cinnamon, with pumpkin pure. Flavour is sweet, syrupy and spicy, with pumpkin pure, nutmeg and cinnamon, with a pumpkin syrup finish. It's not awful but I don't want to drink it again.

Pours amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of Amarillo, guava. Taste has very well layered notes of pine and citrus, slightly herbal, fruity, some pepper. Palate has cedar, pine, extremely well balanced citrus hops and dry malt, mildly resinous finish. Excellent.
