DESTIHL was founded on the promise of supporting flavor and boycotting bland. We're an independent, production brewery that was established in 2013 in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois to brew beyond the confines of typical beers. Our team combines centuries-old global brewing traditions and new American craft brewing ingenuity & artisanship to produce a wide array of beers for every palate. We brew more styles of beer because we have a passion for brewing and because you have a passion for unique, craft beers. The result is a diverse offering of intensely flavorful beers that are anything but bland, from our award-winning WiLD SOUR Series, barrel-aged Saint Dekkera® Reserve Sour Ales and Dosvidanya® Russian Imperial Stout, to our many Belgian-style beers, IPA's, other wood-aged beers, classic styles and exciting seasonals. 12 oz can pour. Love the cans comeback. Pours a cloudy yellow with a sweet fruit aroma with some belgian yeast. Mostly fruity beer with some lemon and orange. Just barely has a sour side to it. Pretty good beer.
What the Funk, October 2014, Denver. Pours a hazy yellow appearance with a white head. The salt is nicely integrated without being overdone like some other Goses. Nice, twangy lemony yogurt flavor. Medium light body. Refreshing and tasty.
On tap at Belmont Station Bier Cafe, pours a clear dark golden copper with a small white head. Aroma is complex and oaky, and some feet. Flavour is metallic and oaky, with tart light fruits. Low complexity with low drinkability. Not the most interesting sour but nothing too bad.
On tap at Bailey's, pours a hazy copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out strong Belgian yeast, citrus zest and some funk. Flavour is very juicy and fruity, with some undesirable residual sugars, citrus and Belgian yeast. There's also a vegetal note there that's rather detracting. Not that good.
Draught at Collective on Tap, Woodinville, WA Hazy blond color. Dry, with a light bready flavor, and also a light fruity, peach touch. Ordinary bitterness. Fresh.
Can from DeLaurenti, Seattle Red-amber color with small head. Mild aroma, some vanilla, biscuit, malt, vegetables. Good body strength; some malt and caramel flavor, light vegetables, some woody tannins. Strange.
12 oz. can, pours a clear amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma of candied sugar, resinous hops, caramel, and floral notes. Flavour brings out loads of woody resinous hops, earthy notes, and light candied sugar. Quite earthy and woody, with a nice balance. Finishes hoppy, with low astringency. Very nice stuff.
Reviewing from notes at Great Nebraska Brewing Festival. Aroma is tart and rather raspberry forward but there are some light hints of citrus and wheat. Not as complex as I would prefer, but nice nonetheless. Pours a fairly clear, rosy red with a slightly pink head that is somewhat thin and recedes quickly. No lacing or legs. Flavor is similar to the aroma and is dominated by the raspberry which somewhat overshadows the base beer, but there are some hints of wheat and citrus. Mouthfeel is light bodied with moderate carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice rather fruity Berliner with a refreshing level of acidity that does not become too mouth puckering. I wish a bit more of the base berliner showed thorugh the raspberry though.
