500 ml bottle. Dark fruit aromas. Black color with a huge light tan head. Lots of body, and the carbonation explodes in the mouth. Bottle conditioned all right. The flavor is mild burnt toast with raisin or prune as a low key note. Finishes dry, with a touch of bitter. Kind of piney bitter. Coffee notes seem to be present, off and on. Like it!

Bottle as Our Glass. Earthy malty aroma. Amber color with a two finger beige head. An old ale aroma for sure. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is malt with something like medium dark or dried light stone fruit. This is great stuff. The mildly roasted malt is set off by some bitter hop. I canโt describe it, so you must just try it. It is very, very good.

[On draught at The Retreat, Reading] Uncarbonated (hurrah!), no head at all, sweet apple at first perfectly balanced by a crisp and bitter aftertaste. Very easy to drink, great session ale but otherwise not that distinctive.

[i] [b] Bottle picked up from SH JOnes Bicester, Oxon, 29-03-08 [/i] [/b] Pours golden in colour with white bubbly head and some gentle carbonation. The breweries website describes this as a classic brown ale??? Mine was a classic golden ale so very confused with that description. Nice beer despite itโs style confusion nice fresh hoppy (gentle) nose with some light fruit, some bitterness seeping through and sits around the edges of your mouth quite soft mouthfeel. Once again a really nice golden ale from Wye Valley

Cask-conditioned at the Bag OโNails, Bristol 2/1/08. Ruby red with a decent off-white head that left rings down the glass. Aroma of red fruit and chocolate malt with some earthy hops. The flavour was chocolatey in the main although with a long, hoppy, dry finish. A very good Christmas ale.

Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, Bristol. Bright gold coloured with a decent white head that left plenty of lacing. Aroma of hay and grassy hops. Flavour had some sweet malt and citrus with a decent dry finish. Has a lot more character than most English golden ales.

Bottle bought from Corks, Bristol December 2006. Brown in colour with reddish undertones and a decent, off-white head. Aroma of red fruit, juicy malt and a hint of Christmas spicing. Plenty of malt in the flavour with a dry, hoppy finish. very good.

Cask conditioned at the Old Tavern Bristol 24/11/07. Near black with a decent tan head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice and a touch of of roasted malt. The flavour had plenty of chocolate and coffee with a decent dry finish. This had a lot more character than the bottled version.

(Bottle 50 cl) Clear, dark, amber golden with an off-white head. Sweetish, roasted malt nose. Quite full-bodied and solid with plenty of malt and caramel. Some hoppiness in the finish where also some alcohol shows. 311007

50 cL bottle. Pours hazzlenut brown with a fully diminished head (started out dense and off-white). Aroma is slight nutty and sweet caramel. Has a slight herbal note too. Starts sweet malty and turns into a more soft malty flavour which again gains some liqourice sharpness in the finish. Ends pleasant with a persisting liqourice flavour.
