Very, very pale golden body: the beer before this was a Warsteiner and the difference in colour was obvious: and that isn’t a really deep golden yellow either. Usual helles/pilsner/lager white, thin covering for a head, I did pour it vigorously and a large head appeared initially, but by the time I’d picked up my pen to comment it had subsided greatly. I found the beer to be odourless and bland from start to finish and although refreshing, bright, clear and clean it was just a fizzy, weak excuse for a beer. Looking at other reviews of this beer has got me slightly worried: am I missing something many have found or are they getting carried away with flavours and aromas they’ve imagined? This was the middle beer of three during the mini session I was having and it was by far the worst of them: Alpirsbacher Pilsner being the third beer. I’ll call it delicate if you wish, but it didn’t do anything for me at all. It reminded me of cheap hot weather lagers served up along the shores of the Mediterranean in Spain or Italy.

Bottle looks simple, but good. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Starts mild, fruity like lemon, not too sweet. Finish well balanced, still mild with some hoppy notes. Not bad!
