Description
In 1872 the brewery was founded as stock holding company (AG) under the name brewery Zum Bergkeller. In 1885 it became the Radeberger Exportbrauerei. Under the leadership of Conrad Brüne the small brewery became a large industrial enterprise and an international renowned name. During GDR times it was a beer for the top brass of the party. After 1990 the brewery facilities were extensively renewed. Today Radeberger is one of the most modern breweries in Europe.

Bottle. Fresh hop aroma. Golden colour, big stable white head. Flavour is OK malty, with a low to medium bitterness. Nice enough pils, but no explosion of flavour.

New rating from 16 oz can, dated 15 Jan 21. Comes across perhaps a little closer to what it might be at home. Golden color under a foamy head. Smell is mostly grainy, with hop on the side. Malty taste, some German hop pepper. No rubbery notes like my last one. Also no adjuncty sweetness. There is a bit of stickiness on my lip, plus a toasty malt and bitter hop aftertaste. Given the right packaging and gotten to the consumer quickly, it's a decent German beer that's NOT trying to be another MillerBud or Heineken. ________________ Original rating 1/1/06. 2.3 Bottle from Wild Oats, Hinsdale, IL. An odd choice for my first rating of 2006, but this is what I felt like, and ya don’t fight the feelin.’ So, the quest continues for a decent, representative German lager that stands up to importing. Light gold in color, with a stiff white head. Initially, there’s a decent German beer smell, but it gets overtaken by some kind of rubbery nose. malt character is a little hard to find, just a kind of graininess and some adjunct, There is a bit of spicy, even peppery, hop to it, if you want to look, but also a bit of that strange plastic Miller taste that sends it up or down in my estimation each time I taste it. Worth having had, and at least a pale lager with some character to it. Wonder if it might taste better closer to its home.

(Bottle 50 cl) Beautiful, golden pilsener with a very handsome, tall and retentive head. Lovely malty character and a very fresh, aromatic bitterness. Really "Spitzenklasse" 250100

Clear golden, medium sized, fluffy, lasting head; bready, malty nose, moderate bitter flavour, thin-bodied; unpleasant bitter-metallic aftertaste; down the drain ! In the old glory days of "DDR" Radeberger was the only brewery to use high-class czech barley and hops: Those were the days.....
