Description
The Verhuisbrouwerij is a hobby brewery of a few amateur brewers who move their brewery for a day every month to give brewing demonstrations. This part is to be seen as homebrew.
Next to that, some batches are brewed at a bigger ( commercial) scale in another brewery. For these, official beers, De Verhuisbrouwerij is a client brewer.

Quadrupel infused with cognac from a cognac dealer in the same village as the brewery’s registered office, and extra flavoured with guaraná, a kind of (very) caffeine-rich South-American nut often used in soft drinks nowadays. Medium thick, membrane-lacing, pale greyish beige, breaking but generally stable head on a cloudy, dark mahogany brown beer with ruddy tinge. Aroma of beef broth first and foremost, lots of FFF (freshly fermented farmland), medlar, rotting apples, stale sweat, indeed some cognac piercing through, old potatoes, pear, sour cream, cloves. ‘Dirty’-estery onset, sweet with a (dull) tart edge clearly hinting at infection, hints of pear, medlar and elderberry, lactic effect as in spoilt milk thinly yet clearly running through the whole, finely tingling carb, full and bit fluffy mouthfeel. Caramelly and brown-bready maltiness with a clear nutty side, obscured a bit by the ‘dirtiness’ from the infection but still revealing a dash of background guaraná, before strong phenolic-spicy effects (4-vinyl-guaiacol, the ‘meaty’ way even), lingering earthy and beef broth-like ‘dirtiness’ and this ongoing ‘deep’ lactic sourishness take over, highlighted by an earthy hop bitter accent and warming alcohol, cognac-like I guess, but not very prominently. Both the cognac and the guaraná remain completely understated here, buried under the dirty, earthy, souring effects of an unfortunate bacterial infection that plagues at least the sample I had. Ignoring the infection, I’m sure this has the potential to become a classy ‘bière de dégustation’ and I take that in account in my altogether mild rating – but I cannot deny the infectious effects either, of course, so this clearly needs work.
