Description
Four lifelong Oregonians got together on February 13, 2009 and decided that their knowledge of locale and understanding of craft beer could be an excellent starting point for a business. Later that year Hop Valley Brewing had its debut in Springfield, Oregon, but grew too large for its 15-barrel capacity and opened a new 60-barrel brewhouse and taproom in Eugene in 2013. In July 2016 MillerCoors acquired a majority stake of Hop Valley through its Tenth and Blake craft beer and import division. Hop Valley Brewing Company will operate as a separate business unit of Tenth and Blake.

12 oz. Aroma is corny, doughy, hint of vomit--smells exactly like a macro. Pours mostly clear golden with a two finger off-white head with excellent retention. Taste has a light malt sweetness and a light tartness (WTF--intentional? Not sure). The tartness is a little weird but doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the beer. Finishes lightly dry. Good creamy mouthfeel and carbonation--just right for style. Much better than a macro pale lager.

Bottle split at the L6 Tasting, thanks to Fergus, 20/11/19. Very lightly hazed golden orange with a decent egg shell white covering. Nose is old skool IPA, grass, caramel malts, pine needle, bitter orange. Taste comprises orange pith, grass, bitter citric shreds, toasted malts, grapefruit splash. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with lightly aggressive grassy hop bitterness. Ok old skool leaning DIPA.

Crisp clear golden and peach coloured body with a nice, relatively thin, but noticeable off-white head, just a centimetre tall. Aroma of, you guessed it, pure citrus and grassy hop notes with a lot of grapefruit and pure oranges coming through along with a dash of lighter grass and bitterness. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and very bitter flavour at first from the grapefruit and a lot of hop bitterness from the grass and herbal notes that provide a strong punch to the relatively balanced, but on the lighter side, grainy and lightly earthy malt notes. Aftertaste shows bitterness and a lot of hop notes with the citrus and grapefruit flavours and a little grassiness, with a touch of alcohol that shows up on the end. Overall, a nice and relatively balanced beer that shows a ton of fresh hop flavours and a bunch of grapefruit and orange flavours with a dash of malt towards the end, with a super small amount of sweetness to overpower the hop bitterness, but that is what is expected with this one. I sampled this 19.2 ounce can, purchased from Whole Foods in [downtown] Los Angeles, California on 27-December-2019 for US$2,99 sampled in my hotel room here in [downtown] San Diego, California on 29-December-2019.

Level 6 Bottleshare. Thanks to Fergus. Light haze on this gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Light palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Grainy malts, too grainy. Piney hops. Fairly good orange and tangerine citric hops. Smooth pine. Touch of peel and a whisper of spice. Light finish. Good hops badly let down by a poor malt base.
