Commissioned by a Dutch beer company exploiting a mobile little brewery, this stout shows a beige head and all-black colour, a smokey and toasted aroma of charcoal, peat, smoked meat, black coffee and gin, and an ashy, dry taste with a smoky and chocolatey hint, a bit of warming alcohol in the finish and a certain ’syrupyness’. Good winter warmer, but not very accessible and only suitable for true stout lovers.

330ml bottle bought on recommendation at De Bierkoning. Huge, creamy white head with fine retention and lacing. Yellow-gold coloured body, close to clear in appearance. Inviting semi-sweet fruity hops on the nose, notes of earthy malts beneath. Super fresh fruity flavours balanced with mild caramel and honey sweetness. Lingering mid-dry fruity hops to the finish. Well bodied. Masked alcohol. Lovely (cabin, Serenade 1, Rhine 22.07.2014).

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a clear light amber with a big frothy white head and lots of bubbles. The aroma is yeast, light hop and a little citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter/sweet with a big, but smooth, yeast, malt hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Really liked this. A fine summer beer.

Opaque dark brown almost black colour, small frothy tan head, disappears after a while, some lacing. Shy aroma, sweet roasted malt nose, brown sugar, coffee, dark fruit syrup, chocolate, hint of smoke, herbal hops. Sweet malty and roasted taste, slightly bitter, bit of smoke. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation; aftertaste is bittersweet, more smokiness than in taste. Indeed a porter but with a light rauchbier touch. Interesting beer, good.
