Draft sample @ Back Road festival. Buttery caramel malt and peanut butter aroma. Slightly hazed amber with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel and peanut butter flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. The peanut butter thing was surprising .. not sure where that was coming from.

Taster at the Blarney Stone’s Solstice Fest, Oak Forest. Spicy nose with a bit of fruity hop to it, and nuttin’ wrong with that. Brownish color, in fact taste is a bit like a nut brown ale. On the palate I get a nice dose of hops, but the rye also lends a note of hemp.

Finally writing my notes from Blarney Stone’s Summer Solstice Craft Beer Fest (also know as Stanley Cup Finals game 5). And I’m not only cracking the top off a new brewery, it’s with a beer no one else has rated yet. Big look and smell of amber malt, with a bit fresh yeast thrown in. Definitely a strong beer, though the abv is right at the middle by barley wine standards. The extra wheat malt is felt mostly in the mouthfeel, coming in a little smoother. Pats down any brusque disorderliness from the hops. Great early effort and I’m glad to have finally caught one of their beers.

Draft at brewery: Amber-gold with a short, white head. Aroma is rye, malt, orange. Slightly sticky, fruity, bitter. Almost an imperial feel to it.

Draft at brewery: Dark brown with a short, dark head. Aroma is camp smoke, chocolate. Taste is overly sweet,...molasses, berry, smoke. Good, but the smoke is overshadowed by the sweetness.
